From giving guidance to the Somali community to helping organize multiple charity enterprises, Amran always gives others a helping hand. \u201cEveryone should get the same chances.\u201d Her friend describes her as \u2018the embodiment of helpfulness\u2019, due to her many selfless ventures.<\/p>\n

Amran Mahamed (22) was nominated for Student of the Year for raising money for earthquake relief in Turkey and Syria, Afghanistan and the Pakistani floods. She is vice-president of student association Avicenna and has also organised lectures educating medical students on ramadan, demonstrating ways to treat patients who are fasting. Despite all this, she retains an active role in the Somali community in her neighbourhood, including encouraging Somali children to read more, and translating for families who don\u2019t speak Dutch during doctor\u2019s appointments. \u201cAmran is known among students as an always positive person you can have a chat with\u201d, says her nominator.<\/p>\n\n\t
