Even though most students felt that online teaching was a negative thing during the pandemic, there is hope for online lectures. This was shown by surveys presented on Thursday as part of the symposium \u2018Academic Education during the Covid-19 Pandemic\u2019. Nevertheless, the students in the Paviljoen are keen for online teaching to be done away with completely.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho here regards online education in a positive light?\u201d asks Sam de Fockert, member of the Board at the Dutch National Student Association (ISO) after taking to the stage in Erasmus Paviljoen\u2019s auditorium. He is presenting the results of a survey along with a colleague during the \u2018Academic Education during the Covid-19 Pandemic\u2019 symposium. Some audience members put up their hands in response. \u201cAnd who sees it as negative?\u201d More hands raised. \u201cLooks like mostly the students.\u201d<\/p>\n

Negative experiences of online education<\/h2>

The students in the room are not the only ones to have had negative experiences with online lectures. This becomes clear right from the first of the symposium\u2019s presentations, which sees three researchers from the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management talk about their comprehensive survey on students\u2019 experiences over the course of the pandemic. A greater number of students suffered burnouts during the lockdowns in particular, and they were dissatisfied with the online education, say the researchers. And this led to a deterioration in grades and students falling behind with their studies.<\/p>\n\n\t
