The Tinbergen building on the Woudestein Campus is to remain closed for the time being. An examination performed by the Rotterdam Rijnmond Safety Region showed that the building\u2019s fire compartmentation does not meet the safety standards currently in force. A thorough renovation will be required to resolve the issues.<\/p>\n

In the spring of 2021, the Tinbergen building was closed because Legionella bacteria had been found in its water pipes. During the ensuing disinfection work, the Rotterdam-Rijnmond Regional Security Partnership examined the building and found that its fire compartmentation no longer conforms with applicable standards.<\/p>\n

Fire compartments are necessary to keep people safe in the event of a fire. For instance, they are used to prevent the spread of smoke.<\/p>\n\n\t
