Students are causing a lot of problems in Kralingen, according to residents of the neighbourhood. Among other things, they are responsible for making a lot of noise with house parties that go on late into the night. “If you try to speak to them about it, they just give you a smart-aleck response in return,” says resident Andr\u00e9 van Wijk. “Young families move out because of the long-term problems and noise.”<\/p>\n

Andr\u00e9 van Wijk is standing in his garden, which is seven metres long and borders on the garden of his neighbours at the back. Diagonally behind them is the student house on Voorschoterlaan that bothers him the most. He points to the building\u2019s white-painted roof terrace. \u201cIf they are chatting there in broad daylight, I can hear their conversations loud and clear. It has a courtyard garden, so the sound reverberates a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\t
