\u201cIt\u2019s a good place to start, but these voting advice applications aren\u2019t very nuanced,\u201d says 22-year-old Nicky Papilaja, student in the International Bachelor Communication and Media (IBCoM) programme and responsible for the <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/show\/76xSmCJxyOabE0zTjJkE9k\"><em>Stemcast<\/em><\/a>\u00a0podcast. \u201cThey may tell you which party aligns with your views, but that doesn\u2019t mean you know exactly what they stand for and what their plans for the future are.\u201d Indeed, Stemcast is intended as a fun way to increase people\u2019s insight into today\u2019s political landscape. \u201cThere have been so many protests and demonstrations recently \u2013 against the government\u2019s Covid policies, among other things \u2013 that people dismiss politics and the elections as boring or naff, agrees Molecular Medicine master student Isa de Beer, who made <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.erasmusmagazine.nl\/2020\/09\/29\/studenten-geven-kiesadvies-in-nieuwe-politieke-podcast\/\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\">KiesAdvies<\/span><\/i><\/a><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">in response. \u201cUltimately, our politicians need to be representative of society as a whole.\u201d She believes that young voters should definitely take a close look at issues like the student loan system and the housing market: subjects that regularly make an appearance in the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/show\/759T1LKyalFoH5xZvezerg\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">different instalments<\/span><\/a><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0of <\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">KiesAdvies. \u201cBy actively contributing to the decision-making, young people can make a real difference and help correct the age imbalance in political representation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">D66 comes out tops in EM\u2019s poll<\/h2><p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">In a recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.erasmusmagazine.nl\/2021\/03\/11\/nieuwkomers-volt-ja21-en-bij1-scoren-goed-in-em-peiling-maar-d66-wint\/\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">poll held by <i>EM<\/i><\/span><\/a><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">, <\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">D66 emerged as the largest party. Smaller parties like Volt, JA21 and Bij1 also performed well among the 1,134 respondents from Rotterdam\u2019s academic community. Papilaja wasn\u2019t surprised by these results: \u201cIn my podcast series, the one about D66 was also listened to the most often. And I am all in favour of the rise of these smaller parties. They can definitely make a difference in the House of Representatives \u2013 even when they only take a single seat.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify
