While she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utoday.nl\/news\/67187\/instellingsaccreditatie-stapje-dichterbij\">acknowledges<\/a> that it may not reduce the workload for lecturers, \u201c(\u2026) at the same time, there are indications that it may reduce the <em>experienced<\/em> regulatory pressure, since there is a stronger feeling that efforts actually serve a purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVarious aspects will need to be thought through and elaborated together with the education sector\u201d, added Van Engelshoven. And that is precisely what she is doing right now. Research universities in particular are calling for this measure, and I can agree with this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut we won\u2019t simply be giving them free rein,\u201d adds Van der Molen. \u201cThey need to prove over an extended period of time that they are worthy of this trust. And we\u2019ll still have the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO) \u2013 they\u2019ll be there if something goes awry. And a lot of institutions won\u2019t actually opt for self-accreditation. I prefer to take a practical view. It can complement other forms of accreditation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>D66 prefers to leave it to the higher education sector. \u201cWe don\u2019t object in principle,\u201d says MP Jan Paternotte, \u201calthough we do have some questions. For example, to which extent can we still compare degree programmes if they\u2019re evaluated via entirely different processes? And more importantly, right now universities and students don\u2019t see eye to eye: the students oppose the idea. If they can get to agree, they\u2019re welcome to submit a proposal.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sceptical<\/h2><p>VVD has chosen to await the Minister\u2019s proposal, but fiercely opposed the idea in the past. And they\u2019re still sceptical: students don\u2019t actually choose a particular institution, but a specific programme, says MP Dennis Wiersma. \u201cWe need to retain insight into the quality of a given programme.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As it is, Wiersma doubts whether universities should all offer the same degree programmes. It would be better for them to work from their strengths rather than offer \u201ca patchwork of degrees\u201d. Programme-based accreditation allows you to identify stronger and weaker degree programmes and determine which programmes could be cancelled.<\/p>\n\n\t<div data-name=\"acf\/quote\" class=\"align\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"\">\n\t\t\t<figure data-component=\"quote-with-author\" class=\"@container\">\n\t<blockquote class=\"text-md italic @2xl:text-xl @4xl:text-2xl text-purple\">\n\t\t\u2018One faculty can offer very high quality, while the other is held back by problems\u2019\n\t<\/blockquote>\n\n\t<\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<p>GroenLinks isn\u2019t too enthusiastic either. \u201cOne faculty can offer very high quality, while the other is held back by problems,\u201d says MP Lisa Westerveld. \u201cYou can\u2019t simply say \u2018the entire institution gets a pass\u2019. I understand why people aren\u2019t happy with the administrative burden and the checklist culture, but we can work to improve these matters. We don\u2019t have to introduce self-accreditation to resolve these issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>SP also has more faith in the accreditation of individual programmes. \u201cSomeone has to drop by every once in a while to go through a few theses and talk with the lecturers and students. We need to keep doing this,\u201d says MP Frank Futselaar. \u201cYou can\u2019t replace this with some centralised, institution-wide procedure. Personally, I\u2019m less interested in whether all supervisory systems are in tip-top shape.
