Every four years, Dutch law requires the Minister of Education, Culture and Science to present a new strategic agenda for the higher education sector. The Education Council recently proposed<\/a> to drop this obligation altogether. Instead, the Council recommends adopting a horizon of ten to fifteen years. And while we\u2019re at it, let\u2019s throw in primary and secondary education, as well as vocational education and training.<\/p>\n

The council issued its recommendation in response to Minister Van Engelshoven\u2019s submission<\/a> of her \u2018Strategic Agenda for Higher Education and Research\u2019 to the House of Representatives in December. In the view of the Education Council, this agenda does not take due account of current developments in basic education and vocational education and training.<\/p>\n\n\t
