Jan Tinbergen\u2019s (1903-1994) daughters were in complete agreement. The bust of their father that was just unveiled is a very good likeness of their father. \u201cWe were allowed to come to the artist\u2019s workplace and provide some feedback. The bust had a bit of a hawk nose for a bit, but the artist immediately fixed that.\u201d The sculpture was unveiled on Tuesday by Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb.<\/p>\n

The bust was unveiled fifty years and one week after the date on which Jan Tinbergen was awarded the Nobel Prize. On 10 December 1969, Tinbergen and the Norwegian economist Ragnar Frisch were jointly presented with the first Nobel Prize in economics. The sculpture was created by Lia Krol, who spent half a year working on the bust.<\/p>\n

Immediately after the unveiling ceremony, Tinbergen\u2019s daughter Hanneke lovingly stroked the \u2018hair\u2019 of her father\u2019s bust. \u201cWe were always allowed to do that to him on Sundays\u201d, she said. She and her sister Els used to think their father\u2019s hair looked rather bristly. \u201cIt looked a bit like a hedgehog\u201d, said Els. \u201cBut it was very soft\u201d, Hanneke assured.<\/p>\n\n\t
