Record
This year, more than three thousand new students join the Eurekaweek. That’s more than ever before. Also, there is a new day especially for international students. In numbers, Eurekaweek 2017 exceeds all previous editions.
Sunday - International Day
The new, international character of the Eurekaweek became clear on the very first day. While for most students, the introductory period only started on Monday, foreign students could already get to know the university on Sunday. In addition to the Dutch classic games koekhappen (cookie grabbing), spijkerpoepen (‘nail pooing’) and stoelendans (chair dance), they could visit an open air cinema and take care of all their administrative matters.
Monday - Official opening
A full English-language opening in De Doelen and uncomfortable interview questions during lunch at the Schouwburgplein. The day ended with a nice party in the Maassilo.
Tuesday - Campus Day
During the information market, EM held its own mini-festival with scientists Jan Stoop and Simone Driessen. There was also a debate between student association presidents and a very crowded information market (but not everywhere!).
Wednesday - Sports Day en Master Day
A sunlit sports day caused some depletion amongst the first year students. On the contrary, (pre) master students had little to expect from the sun: they were indoors for the Master Day. The student associations were busy recruiting new members.
Thursday - Colour your world
The final day of Eurekaweek 2017 was overshadowed by the sudden death of one of the Eurekaweek student guides, in the night of Wednesday on Thursday. During Night of the Songs, there was a minute’s silence in his remembrance. Eventually, it was decided to continue the festivities.
