Rachmaninoff composed his ‘Third Piano Concerto’ in 1909, shortly before the outbreak of war in Europe, and in music. End of an Era: Even in the music of Prokofiev (Overture War & Peace), Ravel’s ‘La Valse’ and in Hindemith’s ‘Mathis der Maler’, you can hear that the world would never be the same again.
