In this lecture, dr. Dries Lesage will tell you all you need to know about present day Turkey. Geopolitically, it plays a mediating role in the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine while at the same time strong-arming prospective NATO members Sweden and Finland. What does Erdogan aim to achieve with his foreign policy? What does the political landscape look like in Turkey right now? And does the candidate representing the united opposition stand a chance of beating him in May?

Dr. Dries Lesage is Associate Professor of International Politics at Ghent University. He conducts research on key trends and reforms in the multilateral architecture, global tax governance and Turkish politics. He is a member of the newly founded Ghent Institute for European and International Studies (GIES).
