Thanks largely to growth miracles, China’s in particular, the world has experienced greater poverty reduction in recent times than ever before in economic history.
In this lecture, Professor Rodrik will argue that the common mechanism behind these growth miracles was industrialization – especially export-oriented industrialization – and, more pointedly, that this mechanism has now not run its course. Low- to middle-income countries will no longer be able to replicate the industrialization experiences of countries such as Singapore, South Korea, or China before them. There will be very few, if any, growth miracles in the future.
Honorary Doctorate
A day later, on 8 November, Professor Rodrik will receive an Honorary Doctorate from the Erasmus University Rotterdam during the celebration of the Dies Natalis of the university.
