On Friday, April 29, from 11. 00 am to 5. 00 pm, Sculpture International Rotterdam (SIR), Beeldende Kunst & Openbare Ruimte (BKOR) and CBK Rotterdam at the Laurenskerk (Grotekerkplein 27, Rotterdam) organize a symposium on 400 years of the Erasmus statue and the beginning of the collection of artworks in public space.
This statue was the first public statue for a ‘held van de geest’ (hero of the mind) in the Northern Netherlands and thus a novelty. The special history of the statue, Erasmus himself and Rotterdam’s art collection will be discussed in detail during this symposium.
With inspiring speakers such as Ronald van Raak (professor at Erasmus University), Frits Scholten (curator at Rijksmuseum), Sandra Smets (journalist, art critic), Siebe Thissen (historian, philosopher) and Annet Zondervan (director CBK Zuidoost).
