When we hear the term prosperity, we often think of wealth. Wealthy individuals have good jobs, large homes, and plenty of money. However, professor Frank van Oort advocates for a broader understanding of the concept of prosperity, which should also encompass health, safety, and clean air. According to Van Oort, prosperity is better described as quality of life, or simply being happy. So, the pressing question is: what truly makes the people of Rotterdam happy?

In the Rotterdam lecture 2025, Frank van Oort will highlight the difficult dilemmas we face in securing our happiness. A lecture full of relatable examples and surprising insights. Come and listen, and join the conversation about the future of your city!

The Rotterdam lecture will take place on Monday 19 May at the debate venue Arminius and is free to attend for all interested parties. We do ask you to register in advance via our website. After the lecture, there will be a reception where you can discuss the talk with the speaker and other attendees.
