This first edition of Night/Shift will have a panel discussion in which the concept of sustainability of the nightlife in Rotterdam will be discussed. What is sustainable nightlife How does it affect Rotterdam? Different drivers of the night will be present, including Kris de Leeuw, co-owner of the club BAR, the famous club at Het Schieblock; Manon van Riel, organizer of the gender bending queer parties that promote LGBTQI visibility; Steven Pieters, founder of the record label Triphouse and expert talent scout; Pietra Ligura &Ted Langenbach, the creative minds behind the NOW&WOW fest and popular personalities of the Rotterdam scene.
Transitioning into the club night, the moving experimental images and sounds of the VJing trio Picture in Picture will show “totally controlled randomness” that will fade into a powerful DJ line-up. We will count with a number of established and emerging Rotterdam-based DJs, like Pohon, Chris Baas, Santoine and JJAQ/JJAQ.
A series of visual artists will reflect upon what nightlife means to them using diverse artistic techniques. The artworks will invite everyone to enjoy visual art in a different setting, allowing the viewer to explore the message of the artworks in their rooted conceptual setting: the night. The exhibit will display works by artists Sónia Barreiros, Donald Schenkel, Ropp Schouten and Naomi Jansen who will guide the observers through parallel realities that combined they bring new depth to the discussion.
From 19.00 to 5.00 the night will become culture:
