Table Talk is an open discussion on a present-day topic. On Valentine’s Day this edition will be devoted to the complexities of love in modern life.

Studium Generale will host a Table Talk on this romantic day that will focus on relationships and love. Swiping left or right, flirting by text message and rather travelling the world than committing too early. In our times dating and finding a partner hasn’t gotten any easier. And although we all seemingly still want to commit in the end, there is no one way of doing so. What does love mean in modern life? Has wanderlust entered our love lives? Or do you still believe in the one?

Although everyone will probably experience love at some point in his or her life, it is quite difficult to shape a relationship and to relate intimately. Especially in our times of individuality and self-fulfillment, finding a form that suits you and your partner is challenging. So while we can rate, change and be picky about almost any aspect in our lives, how much can we expect from our other half? Are we still adaptive enough to function in symbiosis? Or will relationships only get more fluid?

Subscribe and receive further information by email. (Participating is free and includes a free lunch, registration is required). Location: Campus Woudestein, Sanders L3-049.

More information: Table Talk

Do you feel the need to just talk freely with other students about recent developments, interesting topics or current events? To share thoughts and views with others from different disciplines and background? Starting Wednesday the 1st of November Studium Generale will offer the possibility to talk, discuss and listen with fellow students on a regular basis.

Every session, our discussion will be centered on a central theme and some reading or viewing material will be provided. Not to worry, you do not need to have deep knowledge of the topic or see this as some extra homework assignment. It is meant as a casual but in-depth exploration of the topic, ourselves and the people around us. Just read, talk and/or listen.

The talks will be in English and moderated by Camie Karstanje, programme manager science of Studium Generale and herself a recent graduate (2015).
