For our (ESN-Rotterdam & SG) monthly film special we’ve teamed up with International Film Festival Rotterdam for the screening of audience winner 2018 The Guilty with a special talk by festival director Bero Beyer on the upcoming festival
About the film: Den Skyldige
A police station somewhere in Denmark. Police officer Asger Holm is taking the emergency calls tonight. His shift is almost over. This isn’t his normal job. To his chagrin, he’s been sentenced to it whilst awaiting a court case. His disinterest is palpable as he routinely deals with the callers – until he is called by Iben. The young woman is panicking. She’s being kidnapped.
The thriller The Guilty joins an illustrious line of films centering around one or more phone calls; but was any of these ever as nail-biting as Gustav Möller’s feature film debut, that unfolds in real-time? A few actors, a single space and a clever script: Möller makes intelligent, efficient use of these few elements. Asger Holm (Jakob Cedergren) is a man apt to jump to conclusions, and then act upon them. But is that such a good idea?
Nominated for the VPRO Big Screen Award. Winner IFFR Audience Award and IFFR Youth Jury Award 2018.
