During How To Create Your Own Chat-GPT, dr. João Goncalves will explain the inner workings of LLM’s like Chat-GPT to us. These models seem all-knowing, but there is more to them than meets the eye. As creator of the university’s own Erasmian Language Model (ELM), he knows exactly what goes on ‘under the hood’ of these technologies. Through the workshop, you will get to understand this too by interacting with and contributing to ELM. These contributions will become an actual part of the final model to be used by our university!

No previous experience with LLM’s is required but is of course very welcome. You only need a phone or laptop to participate!

João Gonçalves is assistant professor in the department Media and Communication of the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication. His research focusses on the interaction between artificial intelligence, politics, and society.

ELM is meant to depose ChatGPT from its position in education by offering a viable and better alternative. An alternative that’s open source, continually trained with a critical socio-technological perspective, safeguards privacy and labour practices and is based on community-wide participation
