Are we truly facing an asylum crisis? Migration has sparked division in the public sphere for years. Politicians sow panic, and polarisation hinders an honest debate. In his revealing book, sociologist Hein de Haas dispels 22 migration myths. The most persistent? That we live in an era of unprecedented mass migration. De Haas spares no one in his call for fundamentally different policies, urging the left, the right, the media, NGOs and academia to adopt a more nuanced narrative.
Hein de Haas is a sociologist, geographer and migration scientist. He worked as a researcher for nearly ten years at the International Migration Institute (IMI) at the University of Oxford, which he continues to direct. De Haas is also a professor of Sociology at the University of Amsterdam and an extraordinary professor of Migration and Development at Maastricht University. How Migration Really Works won the 2024 PrinsjesBoekenprijs for best political book.
