About the film

From Darren Aronofsky comes The Whale, the story of a reclusive English teacher (Brendan Fraser) who attempts to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter played by Sadie Sink (Stranger things).

Charlie (Brendan Fraser) lives a reclusive life teaching English online. He is severely overweight and seems to have lost everything in his life. Yet, full of hope, Charlie tries to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter Ellie (Sadie Sink). But the latter blames him for abandoning his family. Slowly, we discover how Charlie has become the man we see, and how he hopes to still be a father to Ellie. The Whale is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Aronofsky makes you part of a life you want to look away from, but which moves you to tears.

“Fraser gives the performance of a lifetime” (Time Out).
