Imagine yourself in the world of The King in this peerlessly colorful biopic from director Baz Luhrmann (Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge & The Great Gatsby). Austin Butler (Golden Globe winner best actor) and his hips convince immediately in this story of the young singer who makes it to rock ‘n roll sex god under pressure from his Dutch manager “Colonel Parker” (Tom Hanks). Elvis feels like one big videoclip to be enjoyed on a big screen.
About the film
In this thoroughly cinematic drama, we see the life of Elvis (Austin Butler) from the perspective of his complicated relationship with his mysterious manager Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks). Through Parker, the film outlines the 20-plus year complex dynamic between him and Presley, from Presley’s breakthrough to his status as an unprecedented superstar with all manner of addictions, against the backdrop of America’s changing cultural landscape and loss of innocence.
