Renowned violinist Janine Jansen is teaming up with Amsterdam Sinfonietta for the first time in years, to perform one of the most popular classical works of all time: Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. Vivaldi named the concertos La Primavera, L’estate, L’autunno, and L’inverno, and had them represent flowing creeks, thunder, a barking dog and several species of singing birds.
The second piece you will hear tonight is Serenade by Tchaikovsky: Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece Serenade for Strings is one of the most famous works for string orchestra, unique for the Romantic repertoire. Tchaikovsky composed the joyful work full of Russian folklore when he was delving into Mozart. The Serenade certainly has the lightness of Mozart’s serenades, but its intensity, virtuosity and emotional depth surpass any regular serenade.
