Richter will be the successor of Steef van de Velde, who has been dean for the past eight years. Van de Velde’s predecessor was George Yip. Professor Yip occasionally encountered language problems, a concern expressed by the faculty council with respect to this appointment too. Professor Richter will therefore be expected to improve his Dutch language proficiency to level B2 within a year.
Professor Richter studied philosophy and economics in the German cities of Frankfurt and Bochum, before continuing his studies at the London School of Economics. After his studies, he worked for the management consultant firm McKinsey, various business schools in the United Kingdom and since 2015 was dean of Surrey Business School. He was also a ‘visiting scholar’ at Berkeley, Stanford and the French business school INSEAD.
“I am delighted to have been chosen as Dean of RSM”, professor Richter said in a university press release. “I am very much looking forward to working at this outstanding institution. It is RSM’s mission to be a force for positive change in the world, and I am fully committed to helping the school live this mission.”
Classical music
Ansgar Richter and his wife Dorothee have three children. According to the university press release, they all love classical music, reading and spending time with friends and family.
Van de Velde will resign as dean on 1 September. During the two months until Professor Richter’s appointment, Dirk van Dierendonck will be the interim dean.
Gosh. If he will ever get to read this passive-aggressive latent nationalistic intro he will really feel welcome. Not.
